May fishing
Kept 4 Spanish for the table that got the jigs deep
During the past week the Spanish Mackeral and bluefish have showed up in great numbers. Redfish are starting to show up in all of the normal places but still have not showed up in great numbers on the flats. We have caught reds on soft plastics, gold spoons, and spinner baits this past week. There are still fish holding on deep water structure and around oyster points. We have caught several short flounder, bluefish, croaker, spots, spanish mackeral, and an assortment of bottomfish just outside the inlet. Yesterday we caught over 40 Black sea bass on small jigs and bucktails-most of the fish were 2-5 lbs. Too bad the season is closed until June 1 on them because they are mighty tasty. We saw thousands of spanish mackeral yesterday and caught them or pulled the hooks on them on every cast we made to them. They were crushing smaller maria jigs and the like. Kept 4 for the table and released the rest. If you want to fill the cooler now is the time to book a trip. The action is hot just outside the inlet and the inshore waters are starting to turn on.
