Cape Fear Reds

Today started off a little shaky with storm rolling in from the Atlantic but ended up being a pretty nice day.  After waiting out the rain for about an hour we headed back out on the flats in pursuit of skinny water reds.  The tide was dead low so it made getting around a little tough.  We popped a fish cruising the bank with his back out of the water shortly after the rain stopped.  We saw a few more we couldn't get to crawling down the bank crushing bait with their backs out of the water.  Moved onto another flat and stuck five or six more on soft plastics.  Hit two more flats pulling the hooks on two more and landing two more goldfish on soft plastics and gold spoons.  Not a bad half day fishing.

Inshore Tuesday

<p>Started off the day in the skinny backwater of the cape fear this morning. At our first spot Alan pulled the hooks on a red sitting tight on the bank.  Within the next couple minutes Norman stuck a slot red from the same area on a soft plastic. We saw a few more reds that weren't interested in our offering so we moved and hit three more flats. Pulled one flounder for our efforts and hit another body of water.  Norman pitched a soft plastic to a fish right off the bow and watched him eat it.  I helped him land this lit up 24" goldfish, snap a pic, and release him.  We fished the rest of the flat and ran over a good pod of fish before re locating.  At our next flat I saw an upper slot cruising the bank in 6 inches of water.  I told Alan to make a long cast down the bank and bring the swimbait back front of the cruising red.  The fish turned and attached the soft plastic and just as he came tight he was gone.  Norman got a small trout and Alan lost a flounder right beside the boat before moving again.  We hit two more flats and Norman struck again with a pretty mid slot goldfish.  Then at our last spot I saw fish moving in the super skinny loose grass.  I tossed a soft plastic in the grass and came tight on a nice red that broke me off.  It was tough conditions throughout the day with low water, dead algae in the water everywhere, and some wind.  Not a bad day throwing artificial lures only like usual.
