Fatty caught in pre fish

Our tourney fish

This past weekend Hurricane Drew and I fish the Redfish Action Series Cup one event out of Beaufort, NC. I got back into town from NEw England the Wednesday before the event so I only had two days to locate some fish in MHC area. I went up early Thursday and checked a spot I thouhgt may be holding fish although I had never fished the area. I was greeted by over two hundred reds in the upper and over slot that were totally shut down. Could not get them to hit anything. Throughout the day I found numerous fish that were shutdown the same way most likely due to the NEw Moon and low high tides during the day. THe tides were almost twice as high at night during the week and the fish were probably feeding on these tides instead of the day tides. I picked Drew up after lunch and he hopped on with me as we went to some of my favorite bad weather spots and threw spinner baits and popping corks while catching two nice slots and a few rats along with a decent trout. Left there and hit my favorite spot in NC and found some nice fish on popping corks. Left them and fished several more spots to finish our pre fishing. On tourney day hit a few creeks with spinnerbaits and put one of tow reds caught there in the well for our first legal fish of the day. Hit my favorite spot up that way and found a few decent reds and culled out the two smaller fish. Were unable to find the schools I found earlier int he week due to low water and silty water. We ended up with 10.88 lbs and 9th place out of 48 teams in the tournament. Congrats to the winners Chuck Fonvielle and Henry McFadden-first class angers from Georgetown, SC. I hope we are able to improve on our performance this past weekend in the IFA tourney on Saturday May 22.

Tight lines,
Capt Ren
